Dean Katepalli Sreenivasan Dean, NYU Tandon School of Engineering
Dr. Katepalli R. Sreenivasan currently serves as the Dean of the NYU Tandon School of Engineering as well as the Dean of Engineering and Executive Vice Provost for Science and Technology at New York University. He is a physics and mathematics professor, in addition to holding the Eugene Kleiner Professor for Innovation in Mechanical Engineering. Sreenivasan holds memberships in the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, the U.S. National Academy of Engineering, the Indian Academy of Sciences, the Indian National Academy of Engineering, the Academy of Sciences for the Developing World, the American Academy of Arts and Sciences, and Italy’s Accademia die Lincei. His many other honors include a Guggenheim fellowship, the Otto Laporte Memorial Award of the American Physical Society, the UNESCO Medal for Promoting International Scientific Cooperation and World Peace from the World Heritage Centre in Italy, and the Multicultural Leadership Award of the National Diversity Council. Before coming to NYU, he served from 2003 to 2009 as Director of the International Centre for Theoretical Physics in Trieste, Italy. Prior to that, he taught at the University of Maryland as the Distinguished Glenn L. Martin Professor of Engineering and Professor of Physics and served as the Director of the Institute for Physical Science and Technology. At Yale, he held a variety of posts, including teaching in the department of engineering and applied science and being named the Harold W. Cheel Professor of Mechanical Engineering (1988-2002). He also held joint appointments in the departments of physics, applied physics and mathematics; chaired the mechanical engineering department (1987-1992); and served as the acting chairman of the council of engineering (1989). He has been a visiting professor at Caltech, Rockefeller University, Cambridge University, and the Institute for Advanced Study at Princeton, among other institutions.
